I think for many years he just wasn't driven to win


Yeah, he wanted to win, but didn't have the drive to do all of the little things, like workout like a maniac in the off season. He would rather drink beer and party during the off season.

That was OK during the early days of NASCAR, but it's just too darn competitive these days.
